Just eight weeks after giving birth to daughter Lula Rose, Liv Tyler's back at work.
Tyler appeared at London Fashion Week to debut her latest collection for Belstaff, which featured trench coats, denim, and floral print bombers...along with hordes of style junkies desperate for an Insta with the SAG Award winner.
We actually got one (are you following us @elleusa?) along with a chat about the clothes, and other stuff... like naming your kids after famous lovers.
Cute clothes! Everyone needs a floral bomber like that! I'm glad you're into it! We based the line on this photograph of Katharine Hepburn that I fell madly in love with, where she looks so beautiful and so handsome at the same time. She's wearing a shirt buttoned all the way up to her neck, which I think looks so gorgeous.
We should note that we're standing pretty literally in a tiny field of grass and flowers. Your idea? Oh yeah. I figured we could pull a little bit from Stealing Beauty for the set. I think other people might automatically assume it's an English countryside vibe, but that's where it came from.
You cast some major girls like Lameka Fox and Madison Stubbington in your show. And they're all made up like you, with full brows and really rosy lips. Did you cast the show yourself? I really wanted to but I just flew here from New York on Friday. So there was no time! Also, did you know that if you're not having a full-on runway show, you don't get to reserve models until like the day before? I just learned that, even though in a past life, I was a model, too.
Oh, yeah! What was your first fashion show? It was Versace in Milan, Italy. I got to wear this amazing black floral catsuit and we all wore wigs with long, straight hair down to our butts. I wasn't friends with anyone backstage; I was all alone!
How old were you? I was 14 or maybe 15. I didn't model for very long, you know. It was a total blip. It was Versace and maybe a Badgley Mischka show and I was done.
Now that you've got two babies, have you started designing clothes that make it easier to breastfeed, push strollers, things like that? If anything, it's the opposite. The realities of getting up in the morning with two children and being covered in spit-up and totally filthy make me excited to imagine clothes that aren't made for baby puke. Dressing nicely is a dream now.
You just moved to London. Will you get a British accent like Madonna? Oh god, I hope not!... Lula and Sailor are so going to have British accents when they start talking, though, even though Milo is a very New York kid.
Lula is such a great name. How did you choose it? It's always been my favorite girl name. My favorite movie ever is Wild at Heart, and I always wanted to name my daughter Lula [after Laura Dern's character]. But then Sailor [the name of Lula's boyfriend in the movie] got his name first. And I thought, "Shit, I can't call my two kids Sailor and Lula! Sailor and Lula are lovers. And that could get creepy because they're brother and sister!"
You could just never mention it to them? Yeah. We tried out every other name on her, but she just is a Lula. So we're just going to go with it.
