LIV TYLER PLAYS THE OBJECT OF
BEN AFFLECK'S AFFECT IONS IN
JERSEY GIRL. NW ASKS THE STAR
ABOUT LOVE. SEX AND MARRIAGE
You’d worked with Ben before on Armageddon.
How was it this time?
I think it's great that we'd already formed a friendship - and I'm really good
friends with his brother Casey, as well - so I'm
very comfortable around Ben. This was nice,
because it was more ln-depth and a little closer.
Your character talks very openly about sex. Are you like that?
It depends who I'm with. Or
how many cocktails l've had! [laughs]
Have you ever walked up to a guy and asked him
Never. I may think that, but I wouldn't ask.
So you've never approached a guy?
No, I've never done that. You might think so, but I haven't.
Are you more traditional, then?
I've been with my husband [Royston Langdon] for six and a half years,
and before that I was with Joaquin [Phoenix]
for three years. I've never been a big dater. I don't
know anything about dating. I've only been in love.
How do you know when you're in love?
I just know. It just takes over everything and you know.
So what's the what's the secret to a lasting relationship?
Oh, God, it's a relationship quiz! I don't know.
I don't have it all figured out. I guess we're just
compatible people - we're both patient and
understanding and we love each other, we're
really good friends and it just works.
So it's all about communication?
Yeah, and understanding. We're both creative people
but in different things, so we do very well
when we're together. But it's also really
important for us both to focus to be
apart. He can't write music if I'm
breathing down his neck the whole
time. It's just, I guess, the way we are.
How does It feel to be married?
It's beautiful to be married. It's a
really nice symbol. I wouldn't say our
relationship feels much different,
but it's special and it makes us feel
even more heightened and close.
Are you looking forward to motherhood?
You seem to have it all - the career, the husband,
the baby on the way. Is that how you feel?
I feel lucky to have
the things I have, but
I don't think everybody
ever has everything.
I always feel not-so-
sure about myself and
my abilities, and I’m always
trying to work harder.
