Liv Tyler is many things. She's the daughter of a famous lock star.
She's a format model. She's the 'Crazy' girl in the Aerosmith videos. She's
the daughter of Bruce Willis in Armageddon and she's the wild woman in
One Night At McCool's. Regardless of the picture in your mind, this
23-yeor-old star is here to stay.
The story of Liv Tyler's family is
almost as well-known as Liv herself.
Her mother, Bebe Buell, was a
famous rock groupie who also sang
in a band harself. During a brief
split from rocker boyfriend Todd
Rundgren, she had a short-lived
ling with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler,
which resulted in little Liv. Knowing
that Tyler wouldn't make the perfect
dad with his rock'n'roll lifestyle,
Buell, Tyler and Rundgren decided
that Liv would grow up with
Rundgren as her father figure.
Smart little Liv, though, had a
few instincts of her own. In her
diary, she wrote, "I don't know
why, but I feel like Steven is my
daddy." A few years later, when
Liv was around 10, Tyler invited
Buell and Liv to an Aerosrnith concert.
"Liv said to me. "Mommy,
that's my father, isn't it?" " recalls
Buell. From that point on, Tyler
became part of his daughter's life.
"We do things in exactly the
same way. When we're together
we just have so much fun" says
Liv about her natural lather. "He'll
mix these health drinks in his
kitchen and we'll take them up to
his dressing room. We both wear
the same size clothes and we'll
Just stay up there trying on clothes
for hours. And we're both obsessed
about our complexions and have
8.000 different potions and lotions
and things in our bathrooms."
Pushing aside her lather's fame,
Liv began carving out a name for
herself, first with a modeling career
at age 14. A family friend, famous
model Paulina Porizlrova, took a
few photographs of Liv and
launched her modeling days,
which included a cover on Italian
Vogue and several teen magazines.
"It was really a great thing."
shares Liv. "I was traveling and
making money, and I just felt very
lucky. But then it became more of
a job than I wanted it to be. It
became tedious." It was at that
point, at age 16, that she decided
to switch fields and take up acting.
In her first film, Silent Fall, Liv
played an emotionally disturbed
teen who kills her parents. She
went on to do a few more films,
but it wasn't until her role in
Stealing Beauty that people began
to take notice. "It was such a
growing experience." says Liv of
Since then, Liv has been lighting
up the big screen in all sorts
oi roles, from That Thing You Do to
Armageddon to One Night At
MoCool's. "I think the point of getting
into a character is to separate
yourself from yourself as much as
you can." says the star. "It's sort of
like an out-of-body experience."
Long live Liv
With her career moving along at a
steady pace, Liv makes sure that
her personal life is right in tune. "I
find every day an unbelievable journey,"
she reveals. "I'm such a
weird person because I find
myself in moments with this huge
grin that won't go away, and I'm
like, 'I am so happy!'"
The star attributes her zest for
life in part to both of her parents.
"(My father) is always so excited
about lite and so happy," she
shares, "I'm like that, too; even
when I'm depressed I'm just
thankful to be alive. I remember
my mother telling me when I was
little to always appreciate things.
We were never that religious,
but I remember that as being
Right in keeping with her light-hearted
look on life,. Liv admits
she stilt maintains a childhood
habit. "I wish all the time about
things. I wish on loose eyelashes,
I wish on 'Star light, star
bright'... things like that," she
confides. "I'm definitely a wisher,
although you have to be careful
what you wish for."
At team one wish may have
come true-the wish for love. In
February, Liv became engaged to
musician Royston Langdon. "I
suppose (love) is the feeling at having
a complete, unbelievable kinship
of me soul," says the star about
her love philosophy. "That is the
most incredible sensation in the
world. I don't even know how to
Earlier this year, Liv announced her
engagement to super-sweetie Royston
Langdon of the band Spacehogs.
Maybe it was fate. "Because of
my dad, everybody thinks I grew
up in this any rock'n'roll
world," says Liv. "But I didn't
even meet him for the first time
until I was eight - and I didn't
know then that he was my dad. I
grow up in Portland, Maine, until
I was ten or eleven. I really had
a pretty normal childhood."
